Abstract
Health promotion and disease prevention services based on the Thai traditional medicine (TTM) concepts
are normally provided at health-care facilities under the Ministry of Public Health; and such services should be
covered as part of the TTM services under the Universal Health Coverage Scheme. This study aimed to determine
the unit costs of TTM-based health promotion and disease prevention activities, assess the cost-effectiveness of
TTM services that should be delivered, and make suggestions for improving the benefit packages on this matter.
The findings showed the unit costs varied slightly as a result of differences in TTM service activities, numbers of
clients and service patterns. There were no adequate data for determining the cost-effectiveness of such services
due to improper study design, low sample size and other factors. Thus, efforts should be made to prepare lists of
TTM services based on the professional standards, clearly specifying target population groups, service guidelines
and cost-effectiveness analysis principles, so that suitable data could be collected for future decision-making.
