The Social Factors Influence on Selecting a Kind of Treatments of the Members
in Households Phung Khon, Sakon Nakhon

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the social factors which influence the selection of the kind of treatment
by the members of different households. The social factors consist of predisposing factors which the patients’
knowledge and awareness of healthcare, the enabling factors which include the ability of the members’ caretakers
to access healthcare and channels for getting health information, and the reinforcing factors which include the
support related to the healthcare of the members. The data were collected from 380 representatives in households
at Phung Khon, Sakon Nakhon with multi-stage sampling by using qualified questionnaires. The data were ana-
lyzed by using Pearson’s correlation coefficient statistics and structural equation modeling. The results revealed
that the predisposing factor is the knowledge of healthcare. The enabling factors are the ability to access health-
care and obtaining healthcare information. The reinforcing factor is the support members receive from their own
households and public health officers in the selection of conventional medicine, local wisdom, and alternative
medicine. The predisposing factor involves awareness of healthcare and the selection of conventional medicine.
Furthermore, the reinforcing factor is directly influenced by the predisposing factor and the enabling factor. The
kind of treatments selected by members can be predicted using these factors with 99.0 percent accuracy.
